Chesapeake Bay Program Adopt-A-Stream Provides step-by-step information on adopting a stream or watershed, materials for successful clean up, and classroom supplies including a Virginia Watershed poster and student activity guides. Department of Conservation and Recreation Water Atlas of Virginia An atlas of 46 maps depicting information on Virginia's water resources including physiography, climate, hydrology, water quality, and water use. Also included is a salinity map of the Chesapeake Bay and hydrology maps of Virginia's wetlands. Tennyson Press Save our Seas An interdisciplinary marine-debris curriculum guide, advocating a hands-on approach to learning about surrounding marine environments. The book is divided into four units including one unit for grades 7-8 and one for grades 9-12. Center for Marine Conservation Bay Team offers online education services including seminars, workshops for teachers, classroom lessons, information about educational resources and more. Virginia Sea Grant Bay Link Online lesson plans, field trip ideas, student projects, and more for grades K-12. Offers a multi-disciplinary approach to teaching about the Chesapeake Bay, its people, and its history. WOW! The Wonders of Wetlands and POW! The Planning of Wetlands Educators' guides to wetlands with over 300 pages of background materials and activities for grades K-12 as well as information on planning and monitoring wetlands in school yards.
Virginia Save Our Streams (SOS) Online Wetlands Campaign Kit provides wetland definitions, factsheets, project ideas, and more. The Izaak Walton League of America W.A.V.E. Watershed Action for Virginia's Environment is a middle school interdisciplinary watershed curriculum addressing Virginia State SOL's on water issues, land use, and the Chesapeake Bay. Available free through Chesapeake Bay Foundation teacher workshops. Bay Grasses in Classes and Bay Grass Seed Nursery projects are also available to restore underwater grasses in the classroom while teaching students about the issues effecting the Chesapeake Bay. Chesapeake Bay Foundation Living in Water An aquatic curriculum guide offering a classroom based study of water, aquatic environments, and the plants and animals that live in water. Several lessons function as companions to activities found in "The Changing Chesapeake", which is available free from the Educational Resources Guide listed above. National Aquarium in Baltimore Hands On! Feet Wet! activity guide offers an experiental approach to learning about aquatic ecosystems. Activities such "Tributary Modeling" and "Watershed Pen Pal" focus on the Chesapeake Bay ($6.95). It's Happening Today on the Chesapeake Bay, one hour video focusing on watersheds, estuaries, and erosion of the Chesapeake Bay, is also available ($12.85). Echo Hill Outdoor School Water Curriculum Information available online with links to fact sheets, lesson plans for all grade levels and water topics including ecosystems, watersheds, and resource conservation. Online Water Source Books for grades K-12 outline over 324 activities related to wetlands, coastal waters, water resources and more. U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Maryland Sea Grant offers videos and publications suitable for middle and high school educators focusing on the Chesapeake Bay. Videos include Chesapeake The Twilight Estuary and Watershed for the Chesapeake. Curriculum materials include Decision Making and the Chesapeake Bay and Issues for the Chesapeake. Maryland Sea Grant Ripples A North Carolina Big Sweep elementary activity guide contains 16 activities concerning litter in aquatic environments (Grades 4-6), $3.00. North Carolina Big Sweep Save Our Streams provides informative publications for teachers including "The Chesapeake Connection" and "Rivers and Streams: Lifeblood of the Chesapeake." Adopt-A-Stream information is found online along with a list of all publications and audio-visual rentals.
