Marine Advisory Program
There are many e-mail discussion lists devoted to environmental science and policy and education. Most subscribers to these lists are professionals, and discussions typically are conducted at an advanced level. Teachers are advised to monitor students' interaction with lists carefully. Excerpts from scientists' lists may provide current information and insight, but introductory-level questions and postings may be inappropriate on some lists.

Usually, the best way to determine if a list meets one's needs and interests is to join it and "lurk" (reading messages but posting none) for a few weeks.

Subscribe (join) lists as directed. Almost all lists will send you general information about the list as soon as you subscribe. Keep this information: it explains how to use the list and how to get off the list when you are ready to unsubscribe. Many also offer "FAQ" files - Frequently Asked Questions - which subscribers can request.
