IVARS (for Interannual Variability in the Ross Sea) is a 5-year project to learn more about
year-to-year changes in the biology, physics, and chemistry of
Antarctica's Ross Sea. The project is headed by VIMS researcher
Dr. Walker Smith.
Funding for the IVARS project comes from the National Science Foundation's
Office of Polar Programs.
This highly competitive program awards approximately 110 research grants each year to U.S. scientists for
study in the Arctic and Antarctic.
