Big Annemessex River (BIGMH)

In 2001, SAV area in segment BIGMH increased to 291.68 ha, 22% more than in 2000 (238.34 ha). This segment accounted for a small portion (1.7%) of SAV in the Middle Bay Zone. The Tier I goal (364.52 ha) was not met for BIGMH, and has not been met for this segment since the inception of the aerial survey in 1978. This is the third consecutive year that SAV has increased for segment BIGMH, and is the highest level of SAV ever recorded for this segment.

On the northern shore of the Big Annemessex River, new SAV was mapped in Crane Cove and SAV expanded in Shirtpond and Fords coves (Map 093). On the southern shore, new SAV was mapped from below Charles Point to the mouth of Colbourne Creek and in Colbourne Creek (Map 093). In addition, SAV expanded in the bed to the east of Jackson Island (Map 093); in Jones Creek (Map 093); and northeast of Janes Island (Map 093).

On the northern shore, slight SAV declines were noted in Mine Cove and in Moon Bay (Map 093); off Mud Point and above Mud Point (Map 093). On the southern shore, slight SAV declines were noted in Acre, Daugherty, and Jones creeks (Map 093).
