Northern Chesapeake Bay (CB1TF)

Segment Text Segment Data Next Segment

In 2001, SAV area in segment CB1TF increased to 3,230.46 ha, 3% more than in 2000 (3,143.49 ha). This segment accounted for 67% of SAV in the Upper Bay Zone and 10% of the Bay total. The Tier I goal (3,112.24 ha) was met for this segment for the second time since the inception of the aerial survey in 1978.

SAV in the large bed on Susquehanna Flats and the large bed that extends from Havre de Grace to Battery Island continued to become more dense and extend further south (Maps 003, 009). In addition, SAV increased notably in Swan Creek (Maps 008, 009), where SAV was not observed in 2000. SAV also increased in the region surrounding Robert Island (Map 002), where only small, fringing beds were visible on the 2000 aerial photography, and in Spesutie Narrows (Map 009).

Notable decreases for this segment occurred in the northwest portion of the large bed on Susquehanna Flats and in the central and eastern portions of the large bed that extends from Havre de Grace to Battery Island (Map 003, 009). Other decreases were observed from Perry Point to Carpenter Point, and on the east side of Garrett Island (Map 003).
