Due to flight restrictions following the events of September 11, a portion of the area mapped for segment CB4MH in 2000 was not mapped in 2001. In 2001, 45.39 ha of SAV were mapped for segment CB4MH. This segment accounted for a small portion (0.94%) of the SAV in the Middle Bay Zone. The Tier I goal, adjusted to cover just the area mapped both years (148.43 ha), was not met for CB4MH.
SAV increased on both shores of the Bay. On the eastern shore, SAV returned in a bed just north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (Map 032), east of Tar Island (Map 43), and east of James Island (Map 051). On the western shore, a new SAV bed was mapped south of Broadwater Creek (Map 035), and SAV returned to Old Colony Cove (Map 42).
