In 2001, 108.40 ha of SAV were mapped for segment CHKOH, 50% less than in 2000 (216.54 ha). This segment accounted for a small amount (1.2%) of the SAV in the Lower Bay Zone. The Tier I goal (91.28 ha) was met for CHKOH.

SAV declined notably in the Chickahominy River in the area of Turner and Wilcox necks (Map 210); in the area from Parsons Island to Eagle Bottom and east of Eagle Bottom (Map 127). In addition, SAV decreased below Watts Point above Chickahominy Haven (Map 127); off Hog Neck (Map 128); in Eagle Bottom (Map 127); off Yarmouth Island (Map 128); in Buzzard Bay (Map 128); off Bush Neck (Map 128); in Nayses Bay (Map 128); and below the mouth of Morris Creek (Map 127).

There were some notable areas of increase for CHKOH. SAV increased off the eastern shore of Turner Neck (Map 210); across from Watts Point and off Chickahominy Haven (Map 127). SAV also expanded at the mouth of Blackstump Creek and off the southern shore of Gordon Island (Map 128). In addition, small new SAV beds were mapped in Morris and Tomahund creeks (Map 127).
