Mouth of the Choptank River (CHOMH1)

In 2001, SAV area in segment CHOMH1 increased to 2,128.51 ha, 213% more than in 2000 (680.65 ha). This segment accounted for 12% of SAV in the Middle Bay Zone and 6.7% of the Bay total. The Tier I goal (2,990.36 ha) was not met for CHOMH1, and has not been met for this segment since the inception of the aerial survey in 1978.

SAV increased on both shores of the Choptank River. On the north shore SAV increased in Blackwalnut Cove (Map 043); in Harris Creek (including the upper portions where SAV had not been mapped for two years; Maps 036, 043); in Broad, Leadenham, Grace, Edgar, San Domingo, Edge, and Bridge creeks (Maps 036, 037, 043, 044); in the Tred Avon River (Map 044); and from Bachelor Point to south of Island Creek (Map 044). On the south shore SAV increased in Trippe Bay and Cooks Point Cove (Map 051); and from Todds Point to Castle Haven Point (Map 052).

SAV decreased notably on the north shore of the Choptank River in Dogwood Harbor, off Bald Eagle Point, north and south of the mouth of Balls Creek (Map 043); and north and south of the mouth of Irish Creek (Map 044).
