In 2001, SAV area in segment CRRMH increased to 157.31 ha, 46% more than in 2000 (107.46 ha). This segment accounted for a small portion (1.7%) of SAV in the Lower Bay Zone. The Tier I goal (218.56 ha) was not met for CRRMH, and has not been met for this segment since the inception of the aerial survey for the Lower Bay in 1971. SAV has been increasing in segment CRRMH for four years, since 1997.
SAV continued to expand along both shores of the Corrotoman River, including the Eastern and Western branches (Map 111); in Town Creek (Map 111); and on both sides of Corrotoman Point (Map 111). As noted for the mainsteam Rappahannock River, these increases are all due to widgeongrass (Ruppia maritima), the only species reported for his segment, and which has been increasing in the last few years.
There were no notable areas of decrease for this segment in 2001.
