Eastern Bay (EASMH)

SAV area in segment EASMH increased from none reported in 2000 to 1,168.23 ha in 2001. This segment accounted for 6.6% of SAV in the Middle Bay Zone and 3.7% of the Bay total. The Tier I goal (2,479.02 ha) was not met for EASMH.

After having no SAV mapped in 2000, SAV in 2001 increased to 58% of the area mapped in 1999. While SAV was not present or diminished in most of Eastern Bay, SAV area increased from 1999 levels off of Romancoke, in Warehouse, Thompson, and Cox creeks, east of Little Island (Map 032); on the south shore of the Wye River above Drum Point (033); in shallow portions of the SAV bed north and south of Long Point; and south of Lowes Point (Map 036).

SAV was still notably diminished from 1999 levels on Kent Island to the north and east of Long Point (Map 036); east of Philpots Island, off Turkey Point, off Bodkin Island (Map 032); in Prospect Bay, along both shores of Piney Neck (Map 033); in the Wye East and Miles rivers (Maps 033, 037); south of Wades Point (Map 036); and in the deeper portions of the SAV bed north and south of Long Point (Map 036).
