In 2001, SAV area in segment ELKOH increased to 823.40 ha, 19% more than in 2000 (692.12 ha). This segment accounted for 17% of SAV in the Upper Bay Zone, and 2.6% of the Bay total. The most notable areas of expansion occurred in Piney Creek Cove (Map 004); above Plum Point (Map 005); across from Paddy Biddle Cove (Map 005); and between Stony and Timber points on the west shore of the Elk River (Map 010). In addition, new SAV was observed at the head of Cabin John Creek (Map 010).
SAV decreased slightly off Hylands Point and Piney Creek Cove (Map 004); in Paddy Biddle Cove (Map 005); at the head of Herring Creek (Map 005); and in the SAV beds below Stony and Greenbush points (Map 010).
