Mouth of the James River (JMSPH)

In 2001, SAV area in segment JMSPH increased to 93.98 ha, 146% more than in 2000 (38.13 ha). This was the second increase after two years of decline. This segment accounted for a small portion (1.0%) of SAV in the Lower Bay Zone. The Tier I goal (15.89 ha) was met for JMSPH, and has been met for this segment every year since 1996.

SAV expanded off Raleigh Terrace and Merrimac Shores (Map 147); west of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (Map 147); and east of Salter Creek (Map 149). SAV that was present just to the west of Salter Creek in 2000, was not observed by the 2001 aerial photography (Map 149).
