In 2001, SAV area in segment PAXOH decreased to 42.27 ha, 10% less than in 2000 (46.73 ha), slightly reversing a seven-year increasing trend. This segment accounted for a small portion (0.24%) of SAV in the Middle Bay Zone. The Tier I goal (0.83 ha) has been met for PAXOH since 1994.
In 2001, SAV declines were noted on the western shore of the Patuxent River at the mouth of Spice Creek (Map 041). In addition, one small SAV bed that was mapped below Graham Creek of the eastern shore, was not observed by the 2001 aerial photography (Map 041). Slight SAV increases were noted on the eastern shore at the mouths of Hall and Friday creeks (Map 041).
