Piankatank River (PIAMH)

In 2001, SAV area in segment PIAMH increased to 218.15 ha, 27% more than in 2000 (171.31 ha). This segment accounted for 2.4% of SAV in the Lower Bay Zone. The Tier I goal (806.85 ha) was not met for PIAMH, and has not been met for this segment since the inception of the aerial survey for the Lower Bay in 1971.

New SAV beds were mapped to the east of Horse Point (Map 117); to the west of Bland Point (Map 118); in Fishing Bay (Map 118); below Stingray Point (Map 118); two small beds to the east and west of Warehouse Cove (Map 118); and two small beds in Milford Haven to the west of Lanes Creek (Map 123).

SAV continued to expand at the mouth of Coves Creek (Map 118); to the east of Cherry Point (Map 118); off the western shore of Gwynn Island (Maps 118, 123); in Edwards Creek (Map 123); in portions of Milford Haven (Map 123); and east of Lilleys Neck (Map 123).

SAV declined slightly off Cherry Point (Map 118); at the head of Hills Creek (Map 123); and in The Hole in the Wall (Map 123).
