Sassafras River (SASOH)

In 2001, SAV area in segment SASOH increased to 473.10 ha, 22% more than in 2000 (388.59 ha). This segment accounted for 9.8% of SAV in the Upper Bay Zone and 1.5% of the Bay total. The Tier I goal (164.71 ha) was met for SASOH for the second year in a row.

SAV increased on both shores of the Sassafras River. SAV beds expanded along the northern shore and new SAV beds were mapped in Cox and Foreman creeks (Map 010). On the southern shore, SAV beds also expanded and new SAV beds were mapped in Turner, Freeman, and Woodland creeks (Map 017).

SAV decreased slightly in Lloyd Creek (Map 017)and along the western shore of Turner Creek (Map 017).
