Estuaries Day

September 20, 2008

Estuaries Day is an annual celebration of our estuaries, the fertile waterways in which the rivers meet the sea. Virginia's main estuary is the Chesapeake Bay, and this celebration takes place on the York River, one of the Bay's most vital tributaries. Estuaries Day is a Saturday full of entertaining educational activities for people of all ages. Activities include canoe and kayak trips, fossil hikes, beach seining, arts and crafts, live animals and more! Estuaries Day is sponsored by York River State Park and the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (College of William and Mary). For more information on Estuaries Day, call Sarah McGuire, Education Coordinator at CBNERRVA at 804-684-7878 or York River State Park at 757-566-3036.
