Programs for the General Public
General Public Outreach
CBNERRVA provides support for programs and field trips for the general public at both VIMS and York River State Park. Programs at VIMS center around oceanography data collection methods, wetland ecology and restoration, shallow water estuarine habitats, oyster biology and reef restoration. Interactive displays at local fairs and festivals display local aquatic species and highlight ways for the public to become involved in preservation and restoration programs. Programs at the York River State Park include field trips on Estuaries Day and on weekends and displays in the park's visitor center.
VIMS Mini-Marine Science School
The VIMS Mini-Marine Science
School is a four-week (one evening per week) course covering tidal
wetlands, shoreline hardening, riparian buffers, nutrient management
and other topics. This program can be revised to cover pertinent
or topics of interest to a specific group. This program is offered
in conjunction with VIMS's Center for Coastal Resources Management
and Department of Public Relations.
