NOAA is funding
several teacher professional development programs across the Bay watershed
this summer. These programs will be offered to ALL teachers across the
watershed. This
site fully describes NOAA's Bay Education and Watershed Training program
and includes application directions and forms, format for proposals, eligibility
information, evaluation criteria, and funding information.
The MAMEA Educational Project grant program provides funding to classroom
teachers and other educators for marine and aquatic educational projects.
The North American Native Fishes Association (NANFA) is offering up
to $1000 to sponsor a project or projects to educate the general public
about native North American fishes and their environment. The Gerald C.
Corcoran Education Grant will fund such educational projects as: producing
and distributing educational materials, stream surveys with public education
as a primary goal, public lectures, nature center displays, school materials
and displays, and teacher training workshops.
The Chesapeake Bay Small Watershed Grants Program supports communities
in the development and implementation of watershed management plans and
encourages local programs that improve water quality and restore habitats
within the Chesapeake Bay basin. Proposals are reviewed by the National
Fish and Wildlife Foundation and selection is based on set criteria from
the Chesapeake 2000 agreement.
For fiscal 2003, the Trust has set a goal of $1.3 million for projects that engage Marylanders in the protection and restoration of the Chesapeake Bay.
The Pioneer Grants Program is the Trust's most recent annual grant giving initiative. It is designed to help develop and implement innovative, cutting-edge approaches that increase Bay awareness, and/or enhance restoration and protection initiatives.
Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals in the areas of environmental
education and restoration and conservation projects of the Chesapeake
Bay.
Over the past eleven years, the Toyota TAPESTRY grant program, sponsored
by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. and administered by the National Science
Teachers Association, has awarded 443 grants totaling nearly $4.5 million
to teachers in the United States and U.S. Territories. This year, 50 grants
of up to $10,000 each and a minimum of 20 "mini-grants" of $2,500 each
are available to K-12 teachers of science. To apply for funding, qualified
teachers must write a Toyota TAPESTRY proposal and submit it for receipt
at NSTA by January 19, 2005.
