- On the Tools menu, click Rules and Alerts.
- If you have more than one e-mail account, in the Apply changes to this folder list, click the Inbox you want.
- Click New Rule.
- Click Start from a blank rule, in Step 1: Select when messages should be checked, then select Check messages when they arrive, and then click Next.
- On the page titled Which condition(s) do you want to check?, under Step 1: Select condition(s), select with specified words in the subject.
- Under Step 2: Edit the rule description (click an underlined value), click on specified words and type *SPAM?* in the space provided. Then click on Add, click OK, and then click Next >.
- On the page titled What do you want to do with the message?, choose which action you would like to do. ITNS recommends one of the following choices:
- Option 1: Move it to a folder titled *SPAM?* so that you can review what is flagged as spam and decide whether you want to read it or delete it yourself.
- Option 2: Delete it if you want to automatically delete any messages coming in with *SPAM?* in the subject line. Messages will still appear in your deleted folder until you permanently delete them, so that you can have the opportunity to review the messages prior to permanently deleting them.
- Option 3: Permanently delete it if you want to automatically delete any messages coming in with *SPAM?* in the subject line. If this option is selected then you will not be able to review any of these messages.
- Follow the steps below for the option that you chose:
- Under Step 1: Select action(s)
- For Option 1: select move it to the specified folder
- For Option 2: select delete it
- For Option 3: select permanently delete it
- For Option 1 Only: Under Step 2: Edit the rule description (click an underlined value) click on specified, then select New… and type *SPAM?* (make sure Inbox is selected under Select where to place the folder), then click OK, and click OK one more time to verify
- " For Options 1, 2, or 3: click Next >.
- On the page titled Are there any exceptions?, click Next > (do not select any items on this page).
- On the page titled Finish rule setup, verify that the following steps are setup properly:
- Step 1: Specify a name for this rule should read as *SPAM?*
- Step 2: Setup rule options should have Turn on this rule checked
- Step 3: Review rule description (click an underlined value to edit) should read as follows (notice the differences between each of the options):
Apply this rule after the message arrives with *SPAM?* in the subject and on this machine only
For Option 1: move it to the *SPAM?* folder
For Option 2: delete it
For Option 3: permanently delete it and stop processing more rules
