Veined rapa whelks: Current distribution in Chesapeake Bay
Molluscan Ecology Program

The map to the left shows the known distribution of veined rapa whelks in the Chesapeake Bay, USA as of August 31, 2009. The bulk (99%) of the more than 18,000 individual whelks collected since September 1998 are from the yellow area. A single rapa whelk was collected near Tangier Light early in 2005 (Harding and Mann 2005) making Tangier Light the northernmost collection point for whelks in Chesapeake Bay.
